These sugar cookies are for people who say they don’t really love frosted sugar cookies. I feel the same- except for these. This was my mom’s recipe and I’ve been asked to share it time after time. These are soft and chewy with a sweet buttery flavor and they are perfect with this decadent, homemade vanilla buttercream frosting.

A few tips:
- Do NOT overcook these. They should bake until just set to give you a soft vs. crunchy cookie
- For best results refrigerate the dough for a bit before rolling
- Make sure you don’t frost until completely cooled
Recipe + Directions:
- Mix Dry Ingredients
- 3 cups of all-purpose flour
- 1.5 tsp baking powder
- .5 tsp salt
- Mix Wet Ingredients (Separately/into mixer)
- 2 sticks of softened butter
- 1 cup of sugar
- 1 egg
- 3 tablespoons milk
- 2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
- Gradually add dry ingredients to the butter/sugar mixture
- Put into refrigerator for an hour or so. Preheat oven to 350.
- Roll out dough. Cut using cookie cutters or a glass.
- Bake for 8-10 minutes. Do not overcook-remove when just set. Oven times will vary.
- Make Frosting (Once cookies are cooled). Mix together using stand or hand mixer:
- .5 stick of butter
- 3 cups of powdered sugar
- 3 tablespoons of milk
- 2 teaspoons of vanilla
- Adjust to taste/consistency. I often add more powdered sugar or milk as needed.
