Here are some recommendations for the best kid-friendly Door County summer vacation!

Door County is a perfect destination for a quick weekend getaway or a full week’s vacation. It’s scenic and relaxing with lots of options for families. We have been to Door County in both Fall and Summer, and prefer to take the kids during the summer where our whole trip can revolve around THE BEACH! Here are five things you should do on a family vacation to Door County.
Rent a beachfront house
Having a rental house right on the beach allowed us to really slow down and enjoy our time away from home. The kids were entertained with the sand and sand toys and I enjoyed early morning yoga, walks and coffee on the beach. There was no packing up sand toys, packing snacks, drinks, diapers, lunches- we just had to walk out our back door. We stayed in Sturgeon Bay, right on Lake Michigan.

Have a Wild Tomato Pizza picnic in the park
Wild Tomato Pizza has a few locations in Door County and the one in Fish Creek (one of our favorite areas) is usually packed because it’s JUST SO GOOD! Anyone with toddlers- you know that waiting for dinner isn’t going to work. We called in our Pizza order, picked it up and had a picnic at Clark Park.

Bike Peninsula State Park
There is a perfect (almost) 10 mile bike trail at Peninsula State Park in Fish Creek. We parked in the lot near the park entrance and the trail was very well marked throughout. We pulled the kids in the bike trailer. It took us around 90 minutes but we stopped for pictures, snacks and to pick up stuffed animals Charlotte had thrown out of the bike trailer.

Go Cherry Picking
This is a Door County must, especially in July and August. Lautenbach’s is a Door County favorite.
Play Mini Golf
This is such a nostalgic summer vacation activity. Depending on where you’re staying there are a few options for mini golf in Door County. Pirate’s Cove in Sister Bay, Red Putter in Ephraim and Egg Harbor Fun Park.
Bonus Tip: Bring your parents/in-laws/relatives with you. They can help watch the kids so you can find some time to relax on your vacation, too!
Wow, looks like a great vacation, thanks for the tips!
